So Esau bore a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob."

Then the words of her elder son Esau were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called her younger son Jacob and said to him, "Behold, your brother Esau is consoling himself concerning you by planning to kill you.

So now, my son, listen to my voice, and arise, flee to Haran, to my brother Laban!

So Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and commanded him and said to him, "You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

So Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were displeasing in the sight of his father Isaac;

So Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on its top.

So it happened that when Laban heard the report of Jacob his sister's son, he ran to meet him, and he embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. Then he recounted to Laban all these things.

Now Jacob loved Rachel, so he said, "I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel."

So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they were in his sight but a few days because of his love for her.

And Jacob did so and fulfilled her week, and he gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife.

So Jacob went in to Rachel also, and indeed he loved Rachel more than Leah, and he served with Laban for another seven years.

So Leah conceived and bore a son and named him Reuben, for she said, "Because Yahweh has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me."

Then she conceived again and bore a son and said, "Because Yahweh has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also." So she named him Simeon.

Then Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, so she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob, "Give me children, or else I die."

So she gave him her servant-woman Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob went in to her.

So Rachel said, "With mighty wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and I have indeed prevailed." And she named him Naphtali.

Then Leah saw that she had stopped bearing, so she took her servant-woman Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

Then Leah said, "How fortunate!" So she named him Gad.

Then Leah said, "Happy am I! For women will call me happy." So she named him Asher.

But she said to her, "Is it a small matter for you to take my husband? And would you take my son's mandrakes also?" So Rachel said, "Therefore he will lie with you tonight in return for your son's mandrakes."
