walk up and down, as in a cloister, opp. βαδίζειν (take a walk), ἐν ταῖς στοαῖς Dicaearch. ap. Plu. 2.796d; walk about, Ar. Eq. 744, V. 237; περιπατῶν ἀνδριάς Alex. 204; ἐν τῷ καταστέγῳ δρόμῳ Pl. Euthd. 273a; π. ἄνω κάτω Ar. Lys. 709; π. περιπάτους X. Mem. 3.13.5, cf. Men. Pk. 156; περιπατεῖται ἡ ὁδός the road is for walking on, A.D. ";boat."; For this common word, which comes to be used for ";ship"; (Acts 20:13) owing to the almost complete disappearance of ναῦς, cf. P Leid Uii. 6 (ii/B.C.) (= I. p. 123, UPZ i. p. 370) ἔδοξεν κατ᾽ ἐνύπνον (l. ἐνύπνιον) πλοῖον παπύρινον, ὃ καλεῖται ἀγυπτιστεὶ ῥώψ, προσορμῆσαι εἰς Μέμφιν, P Hib I. 152 (c. B.C. 250) ἐμβαλοῦ εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ἅλας καὶ λωτὸν ὅπως ἔχωσιν [οἱ ] ναυπηγοί, P Ryl II. 229.11 (A.D. 38) ἐρωτῶ σε ἐκ παντὸς τρόπου εὐθέως μοι πέ [μ ]ψαι. . . τὸ ὀψάριον, ἐπεὶ ἐν πλοίῳ εἰμί, ";I ask you therefore to do your utmost to send me the relish, as I am on board a boat,"; P Oxy I. 36ii. 8 (ii/iii A.D.) ἐ ̣[ὰν ] δ ̣ε ̣̣ τελώνης ἐκφορ [τισθ ]ῆναι τὸ πλοῖον ἐπιζητήσῃ, ";but if the tax-farmer desire that the ship should be unloaded"; (Edd.) (cf. Acts 21:3), and ib. XIV. 1763.4 (after A.D. 222) οὔπω μέχρι σήμερον τὰ πλοῖα τῆς ἀνώνας ἐξῆλθεν.
