(in Δῑο- metri gr.), in compds., both sprung from Zeus or the gods, and godlike.
διό, conjunction equivalent to δἰ ὁ (from Thucydides and Plato down), wherefore, on which account: Matthew 27:8; Luke 1:35; Luke 7:7; Acts 10:29; Romans 1:24; Romans 2:1; 1 Corinthians 12:3; 2 Corinthians 6:17; Hebrews 3:7; James 1:21; 1 Peter 1:13, and often. P Oxy III. 483.34 (A.D. 108) διὸ ἐπιτελεῖτε ὡς καθήκ (ει), ";execute the deed therefore, as is fitting"; (Edd.), ib. IX. 1198.15 (notification of death—A.D. 150), διὸ ἀξιῶ τούτους ἀναγραφῆναι τῇ τῶν τετελευτηκότων τάξει.
