And he saw that a resting place was goodAnd that the land was pleasant,So he bowed his shoulder to bear burdens,And became a slave at forced labor.

Dan shall be a serpent in the way,A horned snake in the path,That bites the horse's heels,So that his rider falls backward.

All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. So he blessed them. He blessed them, every one with the blessing appropriate to him.

So Jacob finished commanding his sons. And he drew his feet into the bed and breathed his last and was gathered to his people.

And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel.

‘My father made me swear, saying, "Behold, I am about to die; in my grave which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me." So now, please let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.'"

So Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, "Your father commanded before he died, saying,

‘Thus you shall say to Joseph, "Please forgive, I beg you, the transgression of your brothers and their sin, for they dealt evil against you."' So now, please forgive the transgression of the slaves of the God of your father." And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

So now, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones." And he comforted them and spoke to their heart.

So Joseph died at the age of 110 years; and they embalmed him, and he was placed in a coffin in Egypt.

But the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased and multiplied and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled with them.

So they appointed taskmasters over them to afflict them with hard labors. And they built for Pharaoh storage cities, Pithom and Raamses.

But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out, so that they were in dread of the sons of Israel.

So the Egyptians brutally compelled the sons of Israel to slave labor;

So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?"

So God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied and became very mighty.

And the woman conceived and bore a son; and she saw that he was beautiful, so she hid him for three months.

But she could not hide him any longer. So she took for him an ark of papyrus reeds and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and put it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.

And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go." So the girl went and called the child's mother.
