2. a. compare (as result of arranging in order): לֿוֺ׳מַהדְּֿמוּת תַּע Isaiah 40:18 what likeness will ye compare to him? אֵין עֲרֹךְ אֵלֶיךָ Psalm 40:6.

עָרַךְ fut. יַעֲרֹךְ to arrange in order, or in a row, to put in order, Germ. reihen, richten, Gr. τάσσω, τάττω, (kindred to אָרַךְ to stretch out in a straight line, to extend, and in the Indo-Germanic languages, Reihe (Reige, Riege), reihen, intens. recken, rego (not for reago, as some suppose), regula, rectus, also rigeo, ftarr fehn, rigor gerade Linie), e.g. to arrange wood upon an altar, Genesis 22:9; Leviticus 1:7 loaves upon the holy table, 24:8 (compare מַעֲרֶכֶת No. 2); also to lay out, to set in order (zurichten), a table for a meal, Proverbs 9:2; Isaiah 21:5, 65:11 an altar, Numbers 23:4, the holy candlestick, Exodus 27:21 Levit. 24:3, Leviticus 24:4 arms for a battle, Jeremiah 46:3. Specially it is used
(a) עָרַךְ מִלְחָמָה to put the battle in array, Judges 20:20, 22 Judges 20:22 followed by אֵת and לִקְרָאת against any one, 1 Samuel 17:2; Genesis 14:8. Part. עֹרְכֵי מִלְחָמָח 1 Chronicles 12:33, 35 1 Chronicles 12:35 and עֱרוּךְ מִלְחָמָה Joel 2:5, set in array for battle. Without the word מִלְחָמָח id., Judges 20:30, 33 Judges 20:33; 1 Samuel 4:2, 17:21 followed עַל, לְ, לִקְרָאתagainst any one, 2 Samuel 10:9, 10 2 Samuel 10:10, 10:17 Jeremiah 50:9, 14 Jeremiah 50:14. Part. עָרוּךְ set in array (for battle), Jeremiah 6:23, 50:42. Job 6:4, יַעַרְכוּנִי for יַעַרְכוּ לִי “they set (the battle) in array against me;” Job 33:5.
(b) עָרַךְ מִלִּים to arrange words, to utter them, followed by אֶל against any one, Job 32:14 also without מִלִּים. Job 37:19, לֹא נַעֲרֹךְ מִפְּנֵי־חשֶׁךְ “we cannot set in order by reason of darkness,” i.e. ignorance. Followed by לְ to direct words to any one Isaiah 44:7 and ellipt. Psal. 5:4, בֹּקֶר אֶעֱרָךְ־לְךָ “in the morning I will direct (my words) to thee.”
(c) עָרַךְ מִשְׁפָּט to set in order a cause in a court of Justice, Job 13:18, 23:4 compare Psalms 50:21.
(2) Followed by לְ to place together (zufammenftellen mit etmas), to compare (vergleichen). Isaiah 40:18, מַה־דְּמוּת תַּעַרְכוּ־לוֹ “what likeness will ye compare unto him?” Psalms 89:7, 40:6, אֵין עֲרֹךְ אֵלֶיךָ “there is nothing to be compared with thee.” Job 28:17, 19 Job 28:19(in each of these places ־ֶנָּה is the dative for לָהּ).
(3) to estimate (i.e. to compare the value of any thing with money); especially to value (comp. חָשַׁב). Job 36:19, חֲיַעֲרֹךְ שׁוּעֲךָ “will he value (i.e. regard) thy riches?”
