ἑτοιμ-άζω,
pf. ἡτοίμακα Plb. 3.72.6: pf. Pass. ἡτοίμασμαι both in med. and pass. sense v. infr.): (ἑτοῖμος): —
I get ready, prepare, ἐμοὶ γέρας αὐτίχ' ἑτοιμάσατ ' Il. 1.118; [ νέας ] Hdt. 6.95; στρατιώτας Acts 23:23; ὁδόν LXX Isaiah 40:3,al.; ἔγκλημα μικρὸν αἰτίαν τε S. Tr. 361; δῶμα E. Alc. 364; βουλήν Id. Heracl. 472; δάκρυα δ' ἑτοιμάζουσι to those furnishing them, Id. Supp. 454; ἀργύριον ῥητόν Th. 2.7, etc.; ἑαυτὸν ἵνα.. Revelation 8:6.

1. Med., cause to be prepared, ὄφρ' ἱρὸν ἑτοιμασσαίατ' Ἀθήνῃ Il. 10.571; ἑτοιμάσσαντο δὲ ταύρους Od. 13.184, cf. Hdt. 8.24; ἑτοιμασάμενος ἃ δεῖ Inscr.Prien. 55.34 (ii B.C.).
2. with pf. Pass. ἡτοίμασμαι, prepare for oneself, τἄλλα ἡτοιμάζετο made his other arrangements, Th. 4.77; ὅπως ἑτοιμάσαιντο τιμωρίαν Id. 1.58; πλείονα ἡτοιμασμένος X. Cyr. 3.3.5; τροφὴν ἡτοιμασμένοι D. 23.209; τὰ πρὸς τὸν βίον Epicur. Sent.Vat. 30, cf. Metrod. Fr. 53.
3. prepare oneself, make oneself ready, c. inf., X. Revelation 8:1-13; πρὸς τὴν χειμασίαν Plb. 3.105.11.
III Pass., to be prepared, ἔλεγε ἡτοιμάσθαι that preparations had been made, Th. 6.64, cf. 7.62, etc.; ἑ. τι to be prepared with.., Plb. 8.30.7.

(= Witkowski.2, p. 41) ἑτοιμάζεται γὰρ ἡ διαδοχή, ";the relief is being equipped,"; P Lille I. 26.4 (iii/B.C.) τὴν δὲ λοιπὴν γ [ῆν ἑτο ]ι ̣μάζω, of preparing land by cultivation, PSI IV. 434.17 (B.C. 261–0) ἑτοιμάζονται θηρεύειν, P Hib I. 47.23 (B.C. 256) καὶ ὄλυραν δὲ κ [αὶ κρ ]ιθὴν ἑτοίμαζε ἵνα [παραμ ]ε ̣τ ̣ρ ̣η ̣σωμεν εἰς τὸ βασιλικόν, ";prepare both olyra and barley in order that we may measure it to the State"; (Edd.). The verb is almost a t.t. for preparations in view of an approaching visit, e.g. P Tebt II. 592 (iii/A.D.) ἐπισ [τολ ]ήν σοι ἔπεμψα ὡς σοῦ ταχὺ ἐρχομέν [ο ]υ καὶ ἑτοιμάκιν (l. ἡτοιμάκειν) σοι πάντα, P Oxy X. 1299.9 (iv/A.D) ἑτυμάσο αὐτὼ (l. ἑτοιμάσω αὐτὸ) ἕως ἔρχῃ, ";I will prepare it for your coming"; (Edd.), ib. XII. 1490.7 (late iii/A.D.) ἐπίστειλον τί θέλεις ἑτοιμασθῆναι, ";give instructions as to what preparations you wish to be made"; (Edd.) : cf. Philemon 1:22. We have an instance of dropped augment in P Grenf II. 14(b).1 (B.C. 264 or 227) ἑτοιμάκαμεν ἐπὶ τὴν παρουσίαν τὴν Χρυσίππου : in BGU III. 830.18 (i/A.D.) χρ ]ὴ οὖν ἑτοιμάσ [ε ]ιν καὶ προαιρ [εῖν, we should have expected either the pres. or aor. inf. for the future. The verb is current in MGr.
