Kohath', קַהָת assembly, Numbers 3:19; Numbers 3:29; Numbers 4:2; Numbers 4:4; Numbers 4:15; Numbers 7:9; Numbers 16:1; oftener Kehath', קְהָת; Genesis 46:11; Exodus 6:16; Exodus 6:18; Numbers 3:17; Numbers 3:27; Numbers 26:57-58; Joshua 21:5; Joshua 21:20; Joshua 21:26; 1 Chronicles 6:1-2; 1 Chronicles 6:16; 1 Chronicles 6:18; 1 Chronicles 6:22; 1 Chronicles 6:38; 1 Chronicles 6:61; 1 Chronicles 6:66; 1 Chronicles 6:70; 1 Chronicles 15:5; 1 Chronicles 23:6; 1 Chronicles 23:12; Sept. Καάθ, but Κάθ; in Genesis 46:11), the second son of Levi, and father of Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel (Genesis 46:11; Numbers 3:19, etc.). B.C. 1873. The descendants of Kohath formed one of the three great divisions of the Levitical tribe. This division contained the priestly family which was descended from Aaron, the son of Amram. In the service of the tabernacle, as settled in the wilderness,,they had the distinguished charge of bearing the ark and the sacred vessels (Exodus 6:16; Numbers 4:4-6). (See KOHATHITE).
