used in the A.V. only in its old Latin, sense of suitable or becoming, as a rendering of יָשָׁר, yashar' (Jeremiah xl, 4, 5, "right," as often elsewhere), חֹק, chok (Proverbs 30:8, an allotted "portion," as sometimes elsewhere), καθῆκον (Romans 1:28, "fit," as in Acts 22:22), ἀνῆκον (Ephesians 5:4; Philemon 1:8, "fit," as in Colossians 3:18); but εὕκαιρος (Mark 6:21), εὐκαίρως (Mark 14:11), εὐκαιρέω (1 Corinthians 16:12), or simply καιρός (Acts' 24:25), refer to opportuneness of time or season. Similarly in the Apocrypha (καθήκω, Sirach 10:23; 1 Maccabees 12:11; 2 Maccabees 4:19; 2 Maccabees 11:36), ἐπιτήδειος, (1 Maccabees 4:46; 1 Maccabees 14:34) ἐπίκαιρος (2 Maccabees 4:32; 2 Maccabees 14:22), simply καιρός (Sirach 39:17), or mere construction (2 Maccabees 10:18).
