a learned English divine was born about 1665. He was admitted to Westminster School in 1680, and in 1686 to Christ Church College, Oxford, where he proceeded as A.M. in 1693, and as D.D. in 1704; became a tutor in his college; took orders in the Church of England; and became rector of Bletchley, in Buckinghamshire, and of Cottesbach, in Leicestershire, in 1717, where he died, in August, 1727. He was the author of, A Treatise of Ancient and Present Geography (1701): Historical Geography of the New Testament (1708): Historical Geography of the Old Testament (1711-12): A Help to the More Easy and Clear Understanding of the Holy Scriptures (1709-28, 8 vols. 4to), being a revised translation of the Bible, with a paraphrase and annotations: The Book of Daniel Explained, etc. (1716): and other works, especially on mathematics.
