Thummell, C.b., D.D.
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a Lutheran minister, was born in Germany in 1802; in 1820 entered the University of Halle, Prussia, and graduated from the University of Tuibingen, in Witrtemberg. In the spring of 1824 he was licensed to preach, and was ordained in 1826. On his arrival in America, in August of that year, he commenced the study of the English language. The first year he was employed as a missionary. From 1827 to 1838 he was professor of languages in Hartwick Seminary; and then accepted a professorship in the Lutheran Seminary at Lexington, S.C. In 1845 he removed to Prairieville, Illinois, where he remained until the close of his life, May 23, 1881.
