an Irish prelate, was born in Lisburn, County of Antrim, in 1665, and was educated at the University of Dublin of which he was elected a fellow in 1684. In 1689 he went for safety to England, and was recommended and appointed chaplain to the factories of the Smyrna Company at Constantinople and Smyrna. In 1693 he returned to England, and was made chaplain to William III, whom he attended four years in Flanders. He was promoted to the deanery of St. Patrick's, Dublin, in 1695, and advanced to the bishopric of Down and Connor in 1699, being soon after admitted to the Privy Council. He died at Bath in October, 1720. In 1695 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of London, and contributed papers upon various subjects. He also printed four Sermons.
