Rice, John H. (1),
a Presbyterian minister, was born at Sharon, N.Y., March 9, 1800. He received a good academical education, studied theology in Auburn Seminary, N.Y., was licensed and ordained in 1832, and subsequently became pastor of the following churches: Cambria, N.Y.; Beamsville and Grimsby, C.W.; Rutland, N.Y.; Barton, C.W.; Grand Haven, Mich.; Gowanda and Sheridan, N.Y.; Wattsburg and Wayne, Pa.; Clymer, N.Y.; Middlebrook and Green, Pa. He died in the latter place, June 21, 1858. Mr. Rice was at one time an agent for the American Tract Society. He was a faithful laborer and devoted servant of Christ. See Wilson, Presb. Hist.
