a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born at Hartford, Connecticut, October 7, 1826. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1848, and the same year became teacher of languages in Newberry Seminary, Vermont, and of Latin and geology in Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, Lima, N.Y.; in 1851 principal of New Hampshire Conference Seminary, Northfield, N.H.; in 1854 principal of Fort Plain Seminary, N.Y.; in 1858 joined East Genesee Conference, and was pastor in Elmira and Rochester, where he made a deep and permanent impression by his learning and devotion. After this he travelled and studied in Europe. In 1869 he became pastor of a Church in Penn Yan, N.Y.; in 1870 professor of historic theology in school of theology of Boston University, and in 1874 dean and professor of systematic theology in the same school. He died at Auburndale, Massachusetts, November 27, 1884. Professor Latimer took high rank as a student of German literature. He possessed a genial temper, and was greatly beloved by all under his instruction. His sermons, essays, and lectures are highly commended. See Alumni Record of Wesl. Univ. 1881, page 91; Meth. Rev.
