a Protestant theologian of Germany, was born November 14, 1828, at Frommen, in Wurtemberg. He studied at Schonthal and Tubingen, and was in 1848 appointed pastor at Wartau, in Switzerland. Here he commenced, in 1859, the publication of the Zeitstimmen aus der Reformirten Schweiz, the organ of the liberal reformed Church party. In 1863 he was called to Meilen, and in 1871 he was elected pastor of St. Peter's at Zurich. He died January 13, 1876, leaving, Predigten (St. Gall, 1852): Versuch einer christlichen Dogmatik (Berlin, 1858; 2d ed. 1868): Ein Gang durch die christliche Velt (1859): Stunden der Andacht (Winterthur, 1862-65, 2 volumes): Religioise Charaktere (1862).
