(Heb. only in the paragogic form Yaaziya'hu, יִעֲזַיָּהוּ , comforted by Jehovah; Sept. Ο᾿ζία ), apparently a third son, or a descendant of Merari the Levite, and the founder of an independent house in that family (1 Chronicles 24:26-27) (B.C. ante 1014); but neither he nor his descendants are mentioned elsewhere (compare the lists in 23:21-23; Exodus 6:19). The word Beno (בְּנוֹ ), which follows Jaaziah, should probably be translated "his son," i.e. the son of Merari. But the text is in such a state that it is hard to know in what light to regard the person to whom it is assigned. Elsewhere the only sons of Merari mentioned are Mahli and Mushi (Exodus 6:10; Numbers 3:33; 1 Chronicles 6:4 [A.V. 19]; 23:21).
