an English prelate, was born at Ropley, Hampshire, in 1765. He was educated at Winchester school, and in 1783 went to New College, Oxford. He was elected fellow in 1785, became canon of Christ Church in 1804, regius professor of divinity in 1809 bishop of London in 1813 and, finally, archbishop of Canterbury in 1828. He died in 1848. His principal works are Sermon [on Isaiah 54:13] (London, 1814, 8vo) Sermon [on Psalms 20:7-8] (Thanksgiving, when the eagles taken at Waterloo were deposited in the Chapel Royal, Whitehall) (London 1816, 4to) A Charge delivered to the Clergy of the Diocese of London the Visitation of 1818 (London 1818, 8vo) A Charge delivered to the Clergy of the Diocese of London in July, 1826 (London 1826, 4to).
