(Ε᾿ρωγή ), a place "before the city" (πρὸ τῆς πόλεως ) Jerusalem, according to Josephus (Ant. 9:10, 4), where the mountain (Matthew of Olives) split asunder for a space of half a mile, filling the king's gardens with the detritus of the avalanche: an account which is evidently an embellishment of the prophetical commentary (Zechariah 14:5) upon the earthquake (Amos 1:1) on the occasion of Uzziah's usurpation of the sacerdotal functions (2 Chronicles 26:16-21). Schwarz ingeniously explains (Palest. page 263 note) the name Eroge as a Graecized transposition for Zechariah's expression gorge of my mountains (גֵּיאאּהָרִי, gey-haray', Sept. φάραγξ ὀρέων, Vulg. vallis mnontium eorum, A.V. "valley of the mountain"). For another identification, (See EN-ROGEL).
