(עֵמֶק הִמֶּלֶךְ, valley of the king), the name of a valley apparently near the Dead Sea, where Melchizedek met Abraham (Genesis 14:17); otherwise called the Valley of Shaveh (q.v.), but identified by some with another of the same name (the modern Valley of Jehoshaphat, or, rather, its southern part, opening into the plot used for the king's garden, about the well of Job and the pool of Siloam), in which Absalom reared his family monument (2 Samuel 18:18).
