Cienfuegos, Alvarez
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a Spanish prelate and statesman, was born at Aguerra, in the Asturias, February 27, 1657, and belonged to the Jesuit order. He was first a professor at Compostella, and afterwards at Salamanca. For some time he occupied the archiepiscopal see of Monreale; was, in 1720, cardinal priest; in 1724, president of the highest Spanish: council at Vienna; in 1733, imperial minister at Rome, and, in 1735, protector of the nuns of Santa Susanna there. In 1737 he resigned his archbishopric, and died at Rome, August 12, 1739. He wrote, De Perfectionibus Christi Servatoris: — De Sapientia Dei: — De Scientia Meiaa: — De Simonia: — Enigma Theologicum seu Potius Enigmatum et Obscurissimarum Quaestionum Compendium (2 volumes, fol.).
