Brown, Amos P.
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
or a Presbyterian minister, was born at Thornton, N.H., June 15, 1791. He was licensed to preach by the Plymouth Association, January 24, 1816, and was ordained by a council at Campton, January 1, 1817, pastor of the Congregational Church. From 1822 to 1834 he spent his time in western New York, and entered upon missionary labors in Missouri, June 18,1834. He assisted in organizing a Church on Black River; became supply pastor of Jerseyville Church, Illinois, in October 1835, and so continued until 1838. In a few years he removed to Rushville, and labored in the ministry as his health allowed. He was one of the original members of the first Alton Presbytery, and removed his relation from that to the Presbytery of Peoria, April 20, 1850. He died May 16, 1859. See Norton, Hist. of the Presb.
