a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born March 5, 1792, at Kiel. He studied at Gottingen; in 1819 was pastor at Windbergen, in- Holstein; in 1824 deacon at Flensburg, and in 1829 pastor primarius there; in 1850 was appointed provost at Flensburg, where he died, Sept.. 1, 1856. He is the author of some hymns as Aus irdischemn Getimmel (Eng. transl. in Schaff, Christ in Song, p. 533, "Amid life's wild commotion"). See Koch, Gesch. d. deutschen Kirchenliedes, 7:156 sq. (B.
