the name of two persons, and also of a place; of two forms in the original.

1. (Hebrew Ale'meth, עָלֶמֶת, in pause Ala'meth, עָלָמֶת, covering, otherwise adolescence; Sept. Ε᾿ληεμέθ v. r. Ε᾿λμεθέμ, Vulg. Almath, Auth. Vers. "Alameth.") The last named of the nine sons of Becher the son of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 7:8), B.C. post 1856.

2. (Hebrew same as preced.; Sept. Γαλεμέθ and Γαλεμάθ , v. r. Σαλαιμάθ, Vulg. Alamah.) The first named of the two sons of Jehoadah or Jarah, son of Ahaz, of the posterity of King Saul (1 Chronicles 8:36; 1 Chronicles 9:42), B.C. post 1037.

3. (Hebrew Alle'meth, עִלֶּמֶת, but other copies same as the foregoing, with which the signif. agrees; Sept. Γαλημέθ v. r. Γαλεμάθ, Vulg. Almath.) A sacerdotal city of the tribe of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 6:60); doubtless the same elsewhere (Joshua 21:18) called ALMON. (See ALMON) (q.v.).
