Adams, George F., D.D.
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
or a Baptist minister, was born at Dorchester, Massachusetts, October 3,1802. He removed to Ohio with his father's family in 1805, was baptized at the age of ten, and licensed to preach at twenty. He graduated from Columbian College, Washington, D.C., in 1829, having been ordained at the Navy-Yard Baptist Church of that place, April 22, 1827. After teaching for several years, he became the pastor of a church at Fredericksburg, Virginia; in 1835 removed to Baltimore, and, in January 1836, became pastor of the Galvert Street Church. After serving as general missionary of his denomination in Maryland, he took charge of the Second Church, Baltimore, in 1848; in 1860 went to Hampton, Virginia, as pastor, and on the breaking-out of the civil war was, for a short time, a chaplain in the Confederate army. For about three years (1862-65) he acted a second time as state missionary in Maryland. After teaching a year or two, he returned to Hampton, and was pastor nine years (1867-76), and then returned to Baltimore, where he was city missionary for a few months, and died there, April 16, 1877.
