("father of the virgin"), a caliph, the first successor of Mohammed, was born about A.D. 570. His original name was Abd-el-Caaba, which was changed for his well-known title when his daughter Ayesha became the favorite wife of the prophet. He began to reign in A.D. 632, and died in 634.
