a learned English divine, was born in Merionethshire in 1703, and educated at Oswestry School, whence he went to Jesus College, Oxford. He then returned to Oswestry and became usher in that school., He took the degree of A.M. at Cambridge in 1742, and that of D.D; at Jesus College, Oxford, in 1758. He; became vicar of Llanyblodwell, in the County of Salop, and afterwards of Llanurhaiadar, Denbighshire, where he died, Oct. 6, 1778. He became prebendary of York in 1768, and of St. Asaph in 1773. He published numerous works, among which are, Essay on the Scheme, etc., of Man's Redemption (1743): — The Evidence of Christianity, etc. (1769): — and The Scripture Theory of the Earth (1773).
