an eminent Presbyterian minister and educator, was born near Washington, Pennsylvania, July 19, 1828. He graduated from Washington College in 1852, and from the Western Theological Seminary in 1855, was licensed to preach the same year, served two years as teacher in the seminary, in 1857 became professor there, and continued in office until his death, August 17, 1883.
