a Protestant linguist of Germany, was born Feb. 2, 1760, at Alach, near Erfurt. In 1784 he was appointed rector at Bü ckeburg; in 1788, professor of Oriental languages at Halle; and died June 29, 1834. ‘ He published, Allgemeine Geschichte der orientalischen Sprachen u.
