a Protestant minister of Germany, was born Jan. 21, 1693, at Caro, not far from Magdeburg. He studied theology and philosophy at Halle from 1712 to 1716. In the latter year he was appointed teacher there, and entertained the hope of being sent as a missionary to East India; but in 1719 he was called to Berlin, where he remained two years, when he went to Nauen as pastor primarius. A few years later be went to Stargard as provost and pastor of St. Mary's, at tile same time occupying the chair of theology and Hebrew literature at the gymnasium there. In the year 1736 he was called to Hamburg, where he died, July 6, 1760, having received two years previously the degree of doctor of divinity from the Jena University. His writings are given in D ring, Die gelehrten Theotogen Deutschlands, 4:612 sq. (B. P.)
