a Protestant theologian of France, was born at Mayence, March 17, 1803. He studied law at Strasburg, and practiced at Colmar. In 1828 he gave up his' profession and betook himself to the study of theology. In 1830 he was appointed principal of the college at Mulhausen. and in 1835 accepted a call to the Lutheran Church at Paris. He died October 19, 1854, in the pulpit of St. Thomas, at Strasburg, where he had made the opening address of the session of the Superior Consistory. After his death a volume of Sermons, containing also a biographical sketch, was published (Paris, 1867).
