an English divine and antiquary, was born in 1703 at Bexton, Cheshire. He was educated at Wadham College, Oxford, was chaplain to the factory at Leghorn, and died April 4, 1777, keeper of the university records at Oxford. He contributed vols. 6 and 7 (the Life of Mohanmmed and:the History of the Arabs) to the Modern Universal History, and wrote many- learned dissertations on Phoenician and other antiquities.
