Smalbroke, Richard
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
an English prelate, was born at Birmingham in 1672, and graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1694. He took his degree of Bachelor of Divinity in 1706 and of Doctor of Divinity in 1708. He was chaplain to archbishop Tenison, treasurer of Llandaff in 1712, and afterwards prebendary of Hereford. He was consecrated bishop of St. David's Feb. 2, 1723; whence he was translated to the see of Lichfield and Coventry Feb. 20, 1730. He died Dec. 12, 1749. He published, Inquiry into the Authority of the Primitive Complutensian Edition of the New Test. (Lond. 1722, 8vo): — Reflections on Mr. Whiston's Conduct: — and Animadversions on the New Arian Reproved.
