(Heb. only in the plur. Shimathim', שַׁמְעָתַי, a patronymic from Shimeah; Sept. Σαμαθίμ ), the name of one of the three families of "scribes" resident at Jabez (q.v.). in the tribe of Judah; descendants apparently of a Shimea who seems himself to have been of the family of Salma, and not to have been connected with the Kenites (q.v.), possibly the brother of David (2 Samuel 21:21).
