a German theologian, was born Aug. 8, 1688, at Asel, near Stade. In 1713 he was called as conrector to Flensburg, in 1715 to Stade, and in 1718 as rector to Lubeck, where he died, Oct. 22, 1762. Seelen was a voluminous writer. His most important work is his Meditationes Exegeticoe, quibus Varia Utriusque Testamenti Loci Expenduntur et Illustrantur (Lü beck, 1730-37, 3 pts.). He also wrote dissertations on different passages of the Scripture, for which see Fü rst, Bibliotheca Judaica, 3, 305 sq. — Winer, Handbuch der theologischen Literatur. (B.P.)
