a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born May 12, 1688, at Lissa, Silesia, and studied at Leipsic. Count Zinzendorf selected him to fill the office of pastor at Berthelsdorf, the duties of which Roth discharged to the admiration of all who knew him. He died July 6, 1758. Rothe is the author of several hymns, the best known of which is his Ich habe nun den Grund gefunden (Engl. transl. "I now have found, for hope of heaven," in Mills, Horae Germanicaem No. 32).
