a Presbyterian minister, was born in Ireland in 1717, emigrated to the United States in 1735, and graduated at the College of New Jersey in 1761. He studied theology under the Rev. John Blair, then of Fagg's Manor, and was taken on trial by the New Brunswick Presbytery May 22, 1762. He was licensed to preach Aug. 18, 1763, and was ordained at Greenwich, N.J., Dec. 11, 1764, having charge of Mansfield, Greenwich, and Oxford. He was dismissed from the three congregations April 18, 1769, and on the same day was called to the Forks of Delaware (now Allentown and Mount Bethel). He was installed pastor of these congregations Oct. 28, 1772, and continued such until his death, in January, 1777, at the hands of the Hessians, near Trenton. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer.
