Riddle, Joseph Esmond
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
an English clergyman, of St. Edmund's Hall, Oxford, curate of Harrow, and subsequently incumbent of St. Philip's, Leckhampton, was born about 1801, and died Aug. 27, 1859. He was the author of many works, both theological and educational, among which are, Luther and his Times (Lond. 1837, 12mo): — Ecclesiastical Chronology, or Annals of the Christian Church (ibid. 1840, 8vo): — Manual of Christian Antiquities (ibid. 1839, 8vo; 2d ed. 1843): — Natural History of Infidelity (eight Bampton Lectures; 1852, 8vo): — besides Sermons, Manuals, etc.: — also a Complete English -Latin and Latin-English Dictionary (ibid. 1836, 8vo), of which several editions have been published.
