a Roman Catholic priest, was born in 1821 at Arnsberg. He received holy orders in 1846, and came in 1854 as missionary to the United States. In 1859 he was appointed-pastor of the German church of the Trinity at Boston, Mass., and died May 5, 1873, at Erie, Pa. He wrote a very important work on the statistics of the Roman Catholic Church of the United States, entitled Schenatismus der katholischen deutschen Geistlichkeit in den Ver. Staaten Nordamerikas (N.
