Quinquarboreus, Joannes (Or Jean Cinqarbre),

a learned Frenchman, was a native of Aurillac, in Auvergne. In 1554 he was made regius professor of the Hebrew language at Paris; in 1575 he was made dean of the faculty, and occupied this position until the year 1587, when he died. He wrote, Institutio Linguae Ebraicoe, cum Notis, etc. (Paris, 1610): De Re Grammnatica Hebraica Opus (ibid. 1549, 1556, 1582; Accessit etiam Liber de Notis, i.e. Abbreviaturis Hebroeorumn [Venice, 1588, and Paris, 1609, cum Notis P. Vignolii]): Notoe in Clenardi Grammaitica Hebraica (Paris, 1549, 1564). He also translated into Latin the Chaldee of Jonathan on Hosea, Joel, Amos (ibid. 1556 and 1563). See First.
