Proal, Pierre Alexis, D.D.
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a Protestant Episcopal minister, was born at Newark, N.J., in 1796. He was ordained deacon in New York, September 18, 1818, his first parish being St. John's Church, Johnstown, where he remained for a short time; then he took charge of St. George's Church, Schenectady; in 1836 he became rector of Trinity Church, Utica, a position which he retained until the spring of 1857, when, on account of impaired health, he resigned. He died in that city September 15 following. Dr. Proal was one of the most prominent clergymen of the diocese of Western New York, from its organization held the post of secretary of the convention, and was deputy to the General Convention.
