a French Orientalist, was born in July, 1659, at Sens. His parents died when he was very young, and left him penniless. Admitted by the protection of the abbé Boileau, grand-vicar at Sens, in the community of Germain Gillot, he learned there Latin. Greek, and the elements of Hebrew. He was sufficiently proficient in the latter language to be able to help father Thomassin in his Glossoire. He obtained a situation as tutor at the College Mazarin, and in 1712 was appointed theologist of the chapter of Sens. He had been a member of the Academie des Inscriptions since 1706. The "Collections" of this company and the "Journal des Savans" contain several memoirs of him. He died at Sens July 3,1717. — - Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Gé neralé, 40, 248.
