Pieritz, Joseph Abraham
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
a noted Anglican divine, was born of Jewish parentage in the year 1815 at Kletzko, in Prussia. At the age of twenty-three Pieritz became a Christian by being baptized at London. Four years later "the London Society for Propagating the Gospel among the Jews" appointed him a missionary among his brethren, and for about eight years he faithfully discharged his duty in that relation, residing in different places in the west of England. In the year 1851 he accepted an appointment to a pastoral charge in British Guiana. For about twenty years he labored as rector of the parish of St. Patrick, in the town of New Amsterdam, in the colony of British Guiana, where he died, October 16, 1870.
