a noted Scotch divine, was born at Falkirk, Scotland, in 1787. He removed early to Edinburghs where he was apprenticed to a wheelwright in 1800. He then joined the Independents, and in 1805 entered as a student for the ministry in a class supported by Mr. Haldane. He became minister of a Congregational Church at Perth in 1807; removed afterwards to London, and was appointed minister of a congregation at Camberwell, and foreign secretary to the London Missionary Society. He died in 1830. He wrote Bibliotheca Biblica, a select list of books on sacred literature, with notices, etc. (Edinb. 1824, 8vo): Life of Baxter (in Baxter's Practical Works [Lond. 1830, 23 vols. 8vo] vol. i): Memoirs of the Life Writings,: and Religious Connections of John Owen, D.D.
