a Presbyterian minister, was born in Berkeley, Bristol County, Mass., Aug. 6, 1811. He was educated at Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., and studied theology in the seminary at Andover, Mass.; was licensed in 1838, and ordained in 1845 as pastor of the Presbyterian Church, Oneida, N.Y. This was his only charge. He was principal of the Synodical Academy at Genesee, N. Y., from 1850 to 1858, and was chaplain of the Western House of Refuge, Rochester, N. Y., from 1859 until he entered the army as chaplain of the 108th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry. His exposed camp life ended in his contracting a fever, and he died Jan. 31,1864.
