a Protestant Episcopal clergyman, was born at Newburyport, Massachusetts, October 25, 1779. After acquiring the rudiments of an education at the public schools of his native town, he commenced to learn the joiner's trade; but in his seventeenth year entered Harvard College, and graduated in 1800. He taught the grammar-school in Brookline after leaving college, and began the study of theology. Soon after, he was employed as lay-reader at Cambridge, and some time later completed his theological course under bishop Bass. He was ordained deacon, July 3, 1803; became assistant to the bishop in St. Paul's Church; in November following rector; and died in that position, April 26, 1842.
