a Presbyterian minister, was born in Lewiston, Pa., Feb. 17, 1816; was educated at Jefferson College (class of 1838); studied theology in the Princeton Theological Seminary; was licensed by Huntingdon Presbytery in 1841; and in 1842 was ordained, and installed pastor of the united churches of Bethesda, Concord, and Callensburg, Pa., where he continued to labor for more than twenty years. In 1861 he accepted the chaplaincy of the 103d Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, in which position he labored until his death, June 4, 1862. Mr. McCay possessed an intellect of high order, clear, comprehensive, and eminently practical; his attainments in science and literature were varied and exact; his piety deep, constant, and heartfelt.
