a celebrated Hindu sage or demi-god, was, according to one account, the son of Brahma-according to another, the son of Bhrigu. He was the father of Kasyapa. See Moor, Hindu Pantheon; Institutes of Manu, chap. i; Thomas, Dict. of Biog. and Mythology, s.v.
