a French architect, born at Pontoise about 1600, is noted as the builder of the Church of the Sorbonne at Paris, reared by order of cardinal Richelieu about 1635. Le Mercier obtained the title of chief architect to the king. Among other admired works of his are the Church of the Annonciade at Tours, and that of Saint Roch in Paris. He died in 1660.
