LBEspine (Lat. Spina, or Spinacen-s), Jean De

a French theologian, was born about 1506. At first a monk, he renounced Romanism in 1561, and joined the Reformed Church. After the Poissy Colloquy, he was for some time preacher at Fontenay-le-Comte, and afterwards at La Rochelle. In 1564 he published his Discours du Vray Sacrifice et du Vray Sacrificateur. In 1568 he was pastor at St. Quentin, in 1572 at Paris, in 1576 at Saumur, in 1578 at Angers, and died in 1594 at Saumur. Besides his Discours, he published, Traite de l'Apostasie (1583): Dialogue de la Cene (eod.), etc. See Bayle, Dict. Hist. et Critique, s.v.
