a Russian prelate, was born in Prussian Poland, of Lutheran parents, at the commencement of the 17th century. He joined the Greek Church while yet young, and became a monk. Distinguished for great ability and learning, he was selected for a professor's chair at Kief. He died at that place Feb. 24, 1684. He published On the Peace between God and Man (Kief, 1669), which, by a ukase of the Synod of 1766, was put in the Index:-Instructions on the Sacrament of Penitence (Kief, 1671); and left in MS. a work on The true Faith (written in Polish), which aims to refute a work on the Supremacy of St. Peter, and the Procession of the Holy Spirit. He also published a synopsis of Russian history, which has been extensively circulated. Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Gé neralé, 25:926.
