a Baptist minister, was born at Charlemont, Massachusetts, in March, 1781. He was converted at the age of sixteen, and ordained at Sandisfield, January 9, 1800. A large part of his life was spent in missionary work, under appointment from the Massachusetts Missionary Society. His tours extended beyond New England to the Black River country, N.Y., and into different sections of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Canada. He first went to Ohio in 1815, and is believed to have baptized by immersion the first convert in the Western Reserve. He died at Perry, Ohio, November 21, 1860.
